TING

Free Democratic School - Berlin

True learning is an active process with the learner formulating the questions, researching and assessing the answers. Setting their own goals and reaching them. This can include the possibility of changing or abandoning one line of study in favour of another. This is a lifelong process; lifelong learning.

To learn something new is hard enough work. Learning something new that you don't want to learn is extremely difficult and in most cases can lead to failure. Being forced to learn something you don't want to is almost certainly doomed to failure.
The last almost 100 years of non-coercive education practice (Summerhill, Sudbury etc), has shown conclusively that pupils learning in a non-coercive environment demonstrate a far greater ability to absorb not only the core learning for any subject, but that there is a greater holistic, multidisciplinary approach to the subject in hand. This also affects the teachers and the teaching of subjects.

At "ting" students will learn what they want when they want.
However outlandish this may seem, it accelerates and ads profundity to the learning process.

The democratic environment at "TING" will allow for the development of responsibility for the community and the rights of the individual. Taking an active part in the school administration gives "ownership" of the school to the people attending the school, removing the "them and us" factor that is so prevalent in the majority of primary and secondary education establishments.

Art Sponsorship Coordination

Bringing together arts and business

Art Sponsorship Co-ordination is a data base for the sponsorship requirements of artists, and the availability and possibilities of sponsorship from the business sector.

Are you a company looking for someone who wants that 2,000 litres of outdated butter milk?
Or someone to take away those space wasting bullet proof glass off cuts?
Are you an artist looking for any amount of old black typewriters or 200,000 old lemonade bottles for a sculpture?

The [a:sk] data base is a solution...
[a:sk] offers artists the possibility to provide bibliographies and details of their projects and requirements, and companies to outline their procedures and contacts for sponsorship applications and what might be available. [a:sk] is not an agent nor will act in the role of an agency.
The data bank is provided as a communications platform and a resource. Artists and businesses can access and contribute to the data base through www.first-ask.de. This allows the possibility of constantly updated information on what is available as sponsorship, and what is requiring sponsorship.
