What the world now needs is not competition but organisation
and cooperation; all belief in the utility of competition has become
an anachronism. ... the emotions connected with it are the emotions
of hostility and ruthlessness. The conception of society as an organic
whole is very difficult for those whose minds have been steeped in competitive
ideas. Ethically, therefore, no less than economically, it is undesirable
to teach the young to be competitive. It's not that I feel that school is a good idea gone
wrong, but a wrong idea from the word go. It's a nutty notion that we
can have a place where nothing but learning happens, cut off from the
rest of life.

Collaboration
Collaboration with existing education bodies, projects and organisations is a key part of the blue crane institute's philosophy. With the emphasis on distance learning, guest professors and lecturers, collaboration is all important. Further it is good education practice to show how collaboration can strengthen local community bonds and relationships with the world at large. The blue crane college will be looking to collaborate with the organisations and projects listed in the Reference section with a view to expanding the horizons of the learning community as well as providing the projects and organisations an interesting platform from which they themselves can develop further.Collaboration on a local level is equally important. It is not the intention to create an island where the local population do not feel part of the learning community. Education in how to use modern media to market local produce at a premium price will be just as valid as someone wishing to study classical literature.
